OVERVIEW

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) collects statistics describing the economic health and demographics of US agriculture through regular surveys. Information from NASS detailing farm locations and demographics is used by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) during an event to inform recovery operations for disasters that may affect the agricultural industry. Information provided by NASS includes production and supplies of food and fiber, prices paid and received by farmers, farm labor and wages, farm finances, chemical use, and changes in the demographics of US producers. These data can be browsed by subject (e.g., crops and plants, livestock and animals, environmental), by state, or by county. Agriculture-specific land use data and cropland data layers can also be viewed online in a map viewer.
