OVERVIEW
RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
A hurricane evacuation route is a designated route used to direct traffic inland in case of a hurricane threat determined by state and local governments. This dataset contains all primary and secondary hurricane evacuation routes identified by gulf coast and Atlantic seaboard states. The routes are based on Hurricane Evacuation Studies performed by government agencies that contain hurricane vulnerability analyses for coastal communities, including assessment of storm impacts, road systems, population demographics and behavior, and shelter locations. These reports typically include five related analyses focusing on hazards, behavioral, transportation/evacuation, sheltering, and population vulnerability and can be found here: http://coast.noaa.gov/hes/hes.html.
