OVERVIEW

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION

The FLEXible PARTicle (FLEXPART) dispersion model simulates atmospheric transport and dispersion processes using a Lagrangian method. Applications include modeling the dispersion of radionuclides or air pollutants, establishing flow climatologies, and analyzing the Earth's water cycle. FLEXPART outputs can also be used for inverse determination of emission sources (e.g., sources of greenhouse gases or volcanic ash). The effects of atmospheric weather (such as rain) are considered in the model. FLEXPART output is usually in a compact binary format that requires special routines to unpack. With processing, the output can be viewed in Google Earth.
