OVERVIEW
RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
The Coastal Change Hazards (CCH) Portal contains data that quantify coastal change hazards along open-ocean coasts in the US. Its products are derived from regional analyses of coastal processes and storm impacts, and they measure attributes such as sea-level rise, shoreline position change, and coastal vulnerability indices (CVIs). Wave forecasting and propagation models (WAVEWATCH III and SWAN: Simulating WAves Nearshore) and inundation models (SLOSH) contribute to these analyses. The portal also features maps which show coastal erosion probabilities for category 1-5 hurricanes. Additionally, portal data may include supplementary storm surge and wave setup information. US Geological Survey scientists used data published in this portal to forecast the coastal change caused by Hurricane Sandy.
